Opel is one of Europe's largest car companies, their Opel Astra being especially successful. All Opel models are sold as Vauxhalls in the UK. Opel also import some Isuzu and Pontiac models. GM's American cars are available through a very limited number of Opel and independent dealers.

Renault is one of the most successful European auto makers during the current recession. The company is the number 1 importer in Germany. Many brand new models are available, like the Twingo and the luxurious Safrane. Further on, Renault is the only European company that builds a mini van (though VW, Ford, Peugeot & Citroën will follow soon). The company recently merged with Volvo (with Volvo being the junior partner) to become an even stronger competitor to VW, Fiat and PSA.

If you have a look at the models produced by Renault Argentina it seems as if you were looking into a history book of Renault cars. Old, long forgotten car that have been out of production in France for years are build here. The only Argentine model that is also still in production in France is the R21 (French production, however, will cease very soon).

Rover, after years of going down hill, looks into a somewhat brighter future. Technologically based on Hondas Rover builds some ver English looking cars, that are increasingly successful on the continent. Despite that, Rover's US sales fell so badly that the company withdrew from the American market, were it was called Sterling, in 1992.
